At Grocery Innovations Canada, we shared the winners’ stage with some of the most recognized names in Canadian food, from Unilever, Kraft Heinz and Saputo to Arterra Wines Canada and Wonderbrands: brands families have trusted for decades, celebrated in bakery, beverages, dairy, frozen food and more. Best Snack went to a bag of Vietnamese mango from Montreal, at just our second GIC and less than 17 months after we sold our first bag. We’re honoured, a little amazed, and just getting started.
Why It Matters
The Show Behind the Award
- Grocery Innovations Canada (GIC) is the grocery industry’s own trade show, presented by the Canadian Federation of Independent Grocers (CFIG).
- CFIG has spoken for Canada’s independent grocers for more than 40 years: 6,900+ retailers strong.
- On the floor: store owners, executives, category managers and buyers, from independent grocers to national chains and specialty stores.
- At the last show, over half of retail attendance came from independent and franchised grocery, and more than a third were category managers and buyers.
The room is full of the people who decide what goes on Canadian shelves.
How the Top 10 Is Chosen
- Entry runs through the New Product Showcase, open only to confirmed GIC exhibitors.
- A selected jury reviews every eligible product across a range of grocery categories, looking for standout innovation, market relevance and potential.
- Winners are announced on stage at the Master Merchandiser Awards Reception in Toronto (2026: October 27).
